It’s time for a little drama at Brenkle Court. The trusses for each unit’s roof were delivered a week ago. Trusses are a structural framework that will bridge the space above rooms and provide support for the roof. The trusses will be spaced at regular intervals across the top of each unit.
The Brenkle Court crew has been proud of our ability to stay on schedule despite COVID. We’ve been short-handed, as many of our homeowners work for wineries and have been working long hours in the grape harvest. We’ve also lost time to the tragic fire and dangerous air quality.
Getting the roof finished remains a priority
It’s been our goal to finish the roof before the rainy season. With the roof over our heads, we can continue to work through the winter without interruption.
Stanford economist Raj Chetty found that children who moved to lower poverty neighborhoods saw their earnings as adults increase by approximately 31%, an increased likelihood of living in better neighborhoods as adults, and a lowered likelihood of becoming a single parent. Children living in stable, affordable homes are more likely to do well in school and have opportunities to learn outside the classroom.
We’re a much more practiced group now, and we’re working as a team. We’re able to anticipate the next move, so there’s much less wasted time. Much more efficient, we’re spread out across the eight-unit complex, working on different jobs
Marisol was on Cuba’s national swim team. (pay attention: this is important). They never let her attend the international swim meets outside of Cuba because they were afraid she would defect due to her family and friends in the US. Nevertheless, Marisol made friends with her competitors from several countries when they came to the island, and those relationships would provide critical in her long journey to find a better life that didn’t include living under a dictator.
With the dramatic drop in income for countless people due to the COVID-19 pandemic, millions fell behind in their rent or mortgage payments. The federal government helped for a month or two. Now our cities and rural areas are filled with people in deep financial trouble, facing frightening consequences of not being able to make their monthly payments.
