OTSH President, Polly Ogden writes a Letter to the Editor about John Brenkle’s commitment to affordable housing.

Monsignor John Brenkle’s recent passing leaves us at Our Town St Helena (OTSH) with fond memories and reflections of his example of how to “walk the walk.”

As a co-founder and long-serving board member of OTSH (2009-2021), Father John was a steadfast advocate for quality, affordable housing for all. He provided wisdom and guidance to OTSH as the organization got off its feet and initiated its first affordable housing development, Brenkle Court.

The OTSH board named the development in Father John’s honor given his remarkable leadership to address the lack of housing that is affordable to all economic segments of our community. It was a glorious day when Father John blessed the eight new homes at Brenkle Court for the families who toiled for more than three years building their new homes. Father John was by their side throughout the process, often stopping by to check in with the families whom he loved.
