Supporters say it takes a village to build affordable housing in St. Helena — a village with lots of money, time and determination.

For families struggling to find a home in pricey St. Helena, “this is 43 pillows,” said the philanthropist Jim Gamble, one of the project’s major donors.
Set for completion next year, the project is a collaboration among two nonprofits — Our Town St. Helena and Napa Valley Community Housing — five lenders, dozens of volunteers, and donors who contributed more than $3 million to get the project off the ground.
