A Mid Year Message

August 2024

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

It has been a productive and exciting year so far, and we want to take this opportunity to update you on what we’ve been working on and the progress we’ve made.

Executive Director, Jennifer La Liberte

Pope Street Workforce Housing

We are nearly fully funded and will be starting construction on the Pope Street workforce housing project, which will consist of 10 rental units with a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom homes within walking distance of Main Street, local schools, parks, and services. Stay tuned for an announcement for a September 2024 groundbreaking!

Strategic Planning

Our Board of Directors spent a good part of 2023 preparing a Strategic Framework for OTSH, with a goal to produce “105 by 2035” affordable homes through new construction and preservation. So far, we have 73 complete or in our pipeline. We are up to the challenge, and with continued support from our team, board, strategic partners, donors, and volunteers, we believe we can do it!

Welcome New Team Members!

I’m very happy to welcome Liz Russell, Development Assistant and Katie Corley, Marketing Consultant to the OTSH team. Both live in Napa and bring great professional talent and experience to our evolving organization.

Building Our Volunteer Network

Thank you to our volunteers who stand at the ready to help with a multitude of tasks. Your generosity and commitment have made an incredible impact on our mission to preserve and develop quality affordable housing for living in St Helena. If you would like to volunteer with OTSH, send me an email at jennifer@ourtownsthelena.org.

It all begins at home!

How Much Do You Need To Earn to Afford To Live In Napa Valley?

Napa County recently commissioned the State of Housing in Napa Valley report, prepared by Generation Housing (aka Gen H). And the California Housing Partnership recently published the Napa County 2024 Affordable Housing Needs report. We want to take this opportunity to share some of the findings to impress upon our readers how important it is to increase the supply of rental and homeownership housing that is affordable. Amplify your Charitable Giving with the #HalfMyDAF Campaign

Do you have a Donor Advised Fund?

Donor Advised Funds holders have a unique opportunity to put their funds to work now through the #HalfMyDAF campaign. By donating to OTSH by September 27th and committing to spend at least half of your DAF, Our Town St. Helena is eligible to receive a donation match from the #HalfMyDAF campaign.

What is #HalfMyDAF?

#HalfMyDAF is a campaign, championed by St. Helena residents Jennifer and David Risher, to encourage DAF holders to put their funds to work now and maximize their impact. This initiative provides randomly selected dollar-for-dollar matching grants of $5,000 or $10,000, with four matches at $25,000, to campaign-registered nonprofits who receive a confirmed DAF donation. And the more donors who nominate Our Town St Helena, the better our chances of receiving a match.

How Do I Participate?

  1. Submit this form on the #HalfMyDAF website, along with required documentation. Please note Our Town St. Helena’s tax ID number is 26-4247407, and the URL is www.ourtownsthelena.org.
  2. Commit to granting at least half of your DAF by September 27, 2024.

The Amalgamated Foundation is the DAF sponsor for #HalfMyDAF in 2024.
